Welcome

Glad you could visit.

I’ve been writing about people and places — warts and all — for more than 15 years as a news reporter. This is a collection of some of the high points of my work.

I’m based in in the Twin Cities, but have walked my beats at papers in California and Georgia, and spent a decade chronicling the post-communist period in Europe. My areas of focus: business, education, crime, courts, government and investigations — with a dash of features, both in hard news and human interest.

I recently returned from England, where in December I earned a master’s degree in European political economy from the London School of Economics.

I’ve blogged, shot photos and video, and I’m polishing my digital skills by taking classes in the Web Design Professional Series at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College.

I’ve won a few awards along the way. The most recent, which I earned just before leaving for grad school, was for the 2008 MN Society of Professional Journalists Page One Awards / Short Feature – Third Place:

The thought hits him from time to time. But it plagued him Sunday night…..
